Here’s another eco-friendly or ecological packaging example. Landpack is insulated packaging made of straw (or thermal packaging made of hemp) to replace styrofoam. This product can be more than just packaging with its unique and friendly character.

Landpack

Ecological Packaging by Straw & Hemp

We need styrofoam boxes for specific products (such as frozen food, etc.) though we know they’re hard to be recycled while not compostable. But if there’s something organic to replace styrofoam, we can change the situation. Landpack is shortly described like this.

  • Includes Landbox (insulated packaging made of straw), Landbox Hemp (thermal packaging made of hemp) & Landpack Bag (thermal bag made of hemp)
  • Replaces styrofoam packaging with alternatives from renewable sources
  • Compostable, disposable in the organic waste
  • Unique look & touch, individually printed (Bag)

Ecological packaging with uniqueness

The required energy for the production of one Landbox is 20 kWh/m³, compared to 1000 kWh/m³ for a comparable styrofoam box. So we can tell the power of “created by nature” – I didn’t know styrofoam boxes need that much energy.

I also recommend you to check “Inspiration” page of their website. They show “more than just packaging” photos of Landpack.
I think this product is emotional as well as functional with its “friendly” character as seen on the photos.
I especially love the soft and flexible hemp fleece.

It seems we won’t throw Landbox away after taking things out of the package. It looks nice to be a tray or something (though I’m not sure it’s light enough). And it doesn’t make any harm to the earth even if you just dump it. Besides, we can use agricultural side product.

There must be more eco-friendly packaging examples with unique characters and it’s my pleasure to introduce them in Eco Material. I hope my articles will let you take a look at the materials of new approach, even for a minute.
It may take longer time and more money to develop ecological packaging to be marketable
products. However, we would be happy to see them with our every day delivered packages.
