Maybe some of your activities go to online with Covid-19. So how about trying Google virtual museums while you have fewer chances to visit the actual places? Although it’s not enough to experience the museum and environment completely, you can look around the exhibition rooms of this northern European museum of art at home.
Explore Danish Art Museum
Honestly Google Arts & Culture was not in my Chrome bookmark. Once I’ve visited a few museums through it and forgot. But the COVID-19 situation reminded me of checking Google virtual museums instead of visiting physical museums.
So I searched and found this beautiful Danish museum today. Skagens Museum is located in Skagen, Denmark’s northernmost town. It was an international meeting place for young artists from the end of the 19th century and transformed into an artists’ colony.
Naturally the museum was founded to collect the works of the Skagen artists’ colony in the environment in which they were created.
If we don’t live with Covid-19, I might skip “exploring” the museum and go on to the paintings. But travelling is limited these days, so we need to find something alternative to enjoy the place more in a virtual way.
Look around the museum space by clicking “explore” on Google Arts & Culture – it’s not like actual visiting but you can enter the exhibition rooms and see the paintings as they’re hung on the museum walls.
Museum tour by Google Arts & Culture
The tour of the space through virtual reality is limited, but we can feel the atmosphere while walking through the pictures. Skagens Museum looks warm and elegant – like the place that you go when you want peace of mind with tranquil music.
Since it’s the most northern town in Denmark, I’m not sure if I have a chance to visit the museum actually. I only went Copenhagen once and it was already quite far from Korea.
For me this northern town is a mysterious place but who knows? I might have pretty long vacation in the next year and decide to leave for Skagen some day (hope it’s not too cold)!
I also found YouTube videos to introduce Skagens Museum. The one linked above shows the museum both from inside and outside. It looks friendly with its red roofs and goes very well with the paintings that are included.
Although this article is more focused on virtual Skagens Museum, their website is also worth to visit with interesting stories of Skagen artists and their works.
I’ll check Google virtual museums and art galleries again to bring you new ones to visit and feel at home. I know we miss “physical” cultural entertainment more than ever but museums will wait for us in their cities or even on Google.
