If you ever have failed with uploading iPhone live photos to Instagram, this article might be for you. Instagram accepts video formats for videos while live photos are actually “images”. So Instagram doesn’t display your live photos “look like videos” as you expect. ImgPlay must be the simplest solution to turn live photo to video.
Turn Live Photo to Video
Long time no new articles but I’m back to Photo Apps. Unfortunately I still don’t have much time to do blogging these days. So I’m going to focus on one simple app for one simple feature – making videos from iPhone live photos.
If you’re enjoying Instagram with iPhone, you might face the problem before. You want to post your iPhone live photos on Instagram but you can’t because Instagram takes it for an image, not a video.
I’m sure many of you already know how to solve while some of you’re still wondering. So I’d like to give one solution (for those some of you), ImgPlay.
This tiny app is well known as a GIF maker (from video to GIF or vise versa) but it’s also useful to turn live photo to video. It means you can convert live photo into video by ImgPlay.
Simple app to turn live photo to video
Then let me show you how to turn live photo to video, though it’s a bit too simple to explain.
1. Download, open ImgPlay and import the live photo which you want to convert. Crop by the new ratio you prefer. This app allows various ratios like 1:1, 4:3, 2:3, 9:16, etc.
2. Add text if you want by tapping “T” and type the letters.
You can skip crop and text if you only want to convert the live photo and nothing else.
3. Tap “next” (the orange button, mine is in Korean) and save the result on your camera roll.
Now you can upload your live photos to Instagram! ImgPlay also provides filters and stickers though I prefer other apps for these features.
4. You can also try zoom-in effect like I did before saving.
5. Choose how many times you want to repeat the video. I made it 3 times.
As you see on my screenshot 5 and 6, this app can turn live photo to GIF as well. And if you import video instead of live photo at first, you can make GIF from video – remember this is a GIF maker! They even provide another app for “video to live photo”.
Converter with video speed & zoom-in
If you happen to want to know what you can do more with this app, I recommend you to try video speed which is also very simple and useful. The feature is easily recognizable by rabbit and turtle icons (screenshot 3, 4).
You can make your videos different only by letting them slower or faster. You can also find this feature on other apps like Vue Vlog or Momento I already introduced.
Maybe the final problem is that ImgPlay displays quite big watermark. You can upgrade to Pro version to remove it.
But if you ask me how I would do, I’d crop my video on Instagram – that’s the easiest way I can imagine. Take your live photos by 2:3 ratio and crop it by 1:1 when you post it on Instagram.
So here I have my final videos (far below). The right one is “just converted” version and the left one is with zoom-in effect. Hope you enjoy live photos more with this app by simply turning it to video.
