I’ve never visited automatic piano museum – it must be very unique experience. Pianola Museum has a collection of automatic pianos, related objects and gramophones. With 100-year-old “pianolas”, the museum opens many concerts.
A Place of Music by Automatic Pianos
Amsterdam is my favorite city though I’ve visited there only three times for less than 3-4 days each. I think I would love the city more with this museum of “musical” experience.
People imagine and realize automatic music players in various ways. Pianola, the automatic piano may be one of them. I’m wondering how does it feel, actually watching 100-year-old automatic pianos are played.
Piano museum for old, automatic pianolas
The museum also has over 30,000 music rolls in the archive. You can see how the music roll works, on the YouTube Video below (it’s already 12 years ago). Look at the automatically playing piano by the magical paper rolls! The sound is like it’s from old silent films.
The location is about 15 minutes walking distance from the famous Amsterdam central station. Therefore it’s not difficult to visit while you’re travelling the city. If you’re lucky enough to stay in Amsterdam longer, you can rent the museum for special event like big birthday party (up to 50 people).
Now I have one more reason to visit Amsterdam again. It’s nice to enjoy the music of these old instruments, thanks to this small piano museum.
